Sensitive skin and mask...

Dernière mise à jour : 9 avr. 2021

Wearing a mask helps keep you and others healthy when it comes to covid-19. But some people are experiencing skin irritations, contact dermatitis, allergic reactions to face mask fabrics and also acne. Why that ? Masks trap moisture, sweat, oil and dirt close to our skin. When we breath or talk into the masks, we increase moisture which ends up changing our skin's natural pH, and this can result in an overgrowth of bacteria, which can create acne, inflamed hair follicles and even flare-up of rosacea.

What to do if you have sensitive skin ? Dr. Sandy Skotnicki which is the founder of the "Bay Dermatology Centre" and adjunct professor at he University of Toronto is recommending to people with sensitive skin to wear preferably cotton masks made of several layers which would be less irritating and also if possible to not wear makeup under the mask. Dr. Skotnicki is also recommending reparative products - that helps form a barrier and also reduce irritation or inflammation caused by wearing the mask. Some over-the-counter hydrocortisone creams can be used at night under reparative products.

Dr. Skotnicki is the author of Beyond Soap : the real truth about what your are doing to your skin and how to fix it for a beautiful, healthy glow.

CORPA FLORA BEST ADVICES

#1. We do recommend for everybody of all skin types to use our Beauté Divine Camellia cleansing oil which help keep the pores clean. For people with sensitive skin or rosacea-prone skin, we do recommend our sensitive skin version of this cleansing oil.

#2. For the irritation caused by the mask edges, we are suggesting to apply our Corpa Cera+ liquid balm (with Defensil plus). People can use it sparingly along the edges where the mask is most tightly fitted.

#3. Corpa Flora reparative formulas. We do recommend also to use some of our formulas with anti-inflammatory ingredients like our SERENITY DUO day and night. (Antidote 03 redness relief facial oil used with our Antidote H(B5) water-based serum with hyaluronic acid and 2.5% panthenol). Our general nutritive night formula Éclat Citrouille can also be used with our Antidote H(B5) gel night and day (with some mood uplifting effect from essentiel oils in bonus).

#4. How to care for your masks ? If possible, wash your mask after every wear with a gentle soap and the hottest water possible and highest heat setting to dry. Adding bleach alternative to the hot water will offer an extra boost of clean like Soap Works Safe Bleach available at well.ca or simply add 1 TBSP of some sodium percarbonate powder which is a dry version of hydrogen peroxide and is also environmentally-friendly and anti-bacterial (a good bleaching agent alternative), OxiClean baby version is also good.
